Keep on it no matter what.

Hello everybody.

I just want to give you a short reminder to stick with it under all circumstances. I know that in the past I have sometimes used stress or tragedy as an excuse to eat and not worry about it. A better habit is to stick to the South Beach Diet and find someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on if that's what you need.

I won't go into specifics on this blog, but that's what happened this morning. For those of you that know me, don't worry. For our family it's some emotional upheaval for a few hours. There's another family who is dealing with the real tragedy.

Life can still have joy underneath it all...a foundation of joy.

Losing weight is not constant

Hello everybody!

I got up and weighed myself immediately and found that I weighed the same as yesterday. [Tip #5 - Don't weigh yourself everyday.] The thing to remember is that you won't lose weight at a constant rate. Every day is different. I'm still pleased with my progress. Keep on doing it whether you consider it a diet or a lifestyle.

Of course, it's easier with the South Beach Diet because you have such a wide variety of food. Last night I met with friends from Cannon Training and Development at a Denny's in Mission Valley, a community of San Diego. I had the vegetarian omelette with extra onions and low fat cottage cheese on the side. It was delicious. We had a great time and I didn't have to do any calculations of calories or weigh anything. The South Beach Diet fits into my life.

Have a magnificent day!

Walking and encouragement helps

Hello everybody!

I just came back from a walk of about a mile or so. I've done that four or five times since I started. If you've got challenges going a mile, then walk less. You'll work up to it. And soon you'll be able to walk a few miles. I know I'll be there soon. Encouragement helps. In fact, some of you might like a website by a friend of mine, "Action" Jack McClendon, EncourageMINT.com.

I received encouragement a couple hours ago from a teammate of mine. You can check out her blog by clicking on the title of today's post or by clicking EnrouteToFreedom.blogspot.com.
Here's what she had to say-

---

I've already started reading the latest newsletter, WOW. I've also visited your latest blog. I've never journeyed with someone seeking to lose a lot of weight. I'll be sure to check your blog often to check on your progress.

---

I hope you'll check my blog often for encouragement, too. Please feel free to post responses and encouragement. I want to remind you right now that I'm not a medical professional or anything like that. I'm just a papa in California who wants to see his great-grandchildren someday.

One thing I think is huge with regard to the South Beach Diet is that the doctor who developed wanted to create a heart-healthy diet and found that people were losing weight, too.

I had pork loin for lunch with spinach, a little squash, a little onions, and a little Newman's Own Balsamic Vinaigrette for extra flavor. Oh, I had a half a handful of peanuts immediately after lunch, too.

The South Beach Diet is really a lifestyle and it really is doable.

[I did pick up the tea I mentioned last time and I love it.]

Have a magnificent day!

Why Papa?

Hello everybody!

First, you can find links to my other blogs and sites by clicking on the title of each post as well as the links under my signature...

Some of you may be wondering why I'm called Papa. Usually I go by Leftcoastman, but I felt like a change would do me good here. My son calls me Papa most of the time as opposed to Dad or Daddy. So, I'm a real person, a real papa, with a real weight challenge. I've made good progress so far even though I do slip and have diet soda with caffeine sometimes. I think finding the right flavors of tea will be a big help. I like Bengal Spice Herb Tea by Celestial Seasonings a lot.

I guess I'll buy some more so I'm not tempted to get the diet soda when I drop my son off in the morning.

Have a magnificent day!

One week in!

Hello everybody!

Who do you know that wants to lose weight? I love the South Beach Diet. It's a lifestyle, really. Here's a tip - Drink herbal tea instead of diet or regular soda. It's actually a bargain compared to other drinks, especially if you brew it yourself.

I'm not going to give the complete progress report until we get further out. I believe many people get discouraged when they don't make progress as fast as other people. Please keep that in mind when you do this. Hold yourself accountable or better yet, have someone else hold you accountable, but don't be too hard on yourself.

I will say this about my progress: I have rarely felt any hunger and I have lost at least five pounds. I definitely want to get below 43% body fat, too.

You may find another blog of mine encouraging:

Tip #2 Use plenty of cinnamon to flavor the ricotta sometimes. [Tip #3 - Variety helps bigtime!]

I also love raw Napa cabbage, which you can eat and eat and eat.

I highly recommend reading the book, "Who Moved My Cheese" by Spencer Johnson, which is about dealing with change.

Have a magnificent day!
